Alabama’s Alternative Radio Show - Monday 8pm - Weekly
Hello there from the Westcountry.......
Although i do hail originally from South East London.
My name is DJ Alabama & welcome to my Alternative Radio Show.
I've been a regular weekly DJ with Vdubradio since early 2021.
I've always been a part of the late shift here as my music tastes (like my show title states) are a little Alternative.
My music history started as most children of the 70's did by taping TOTP's & The Old Grey Whistle Test off the TV with a microphone connected to a basic tape recorder.
Listening to late night radio like The John Peel Show & making my own mix tapes.
Always making sure a pack of C90 Blank cassettes were at the top of my list for Xmas & Birthday presents.
Not coming from a particularly musical family but being introduced to more obscure stuff like Prog Rock & Post Punk /New Wave music from as early as being in the Cub Scouts & starting out at my first job as an apprentice, hearing it (forced to hear it) by what i'd like to call "the elders".
My obsession with Unusual & Obscure music has been deeply set in my blood long before i was even old enough to drive.
Fast forward to 2021 & VdubRadio gave me my first ever opportunity to put my 50 years of built up music obsession out into the world.
For years i've been able to express myself through my car obsession, but now i can also do so through my music.
Speaking of cars.......
The air cooled Volkswagen scene has always been & still is with me.
I have also owned/built many unusual vehicles through my life including HotRods, 60's & 70's Yanks, Buggy's, a Lowrider & was heavily into what was known at the time as the Saaaaf London Look.
Attending shows & events since 1990.
DJing with VdubRadio at festivals such as Bristol Volksfest, Camperjam & BusFest.
So there ya go.
A little insight into my history & inspirations for me becoming VdubRadio's Alternative DJ.
On my late night weekly show is where you'll discover the Alternative music I carry around in my brain.
From the Alternative to the Obscure.
Regular sound experiences on my show will be genres such as Garage Rock, Prog Rock, Krautrock, Indie Rock, Psych Rock, Stoner Rock, Punk, Post Punk, New Wave, Blues, Jazz, Psychobilly, Comedy Rock, even Lounge & Muzak......
There is no particular pattern I follow & every show I do is different.
